Peter Freudenthal was born 1938 in Norrköping, Sweden. He is a Swedish painter.

Freudenthal studied Art, Art History, Archeology and Ethnography at Stockholm University. In 1962 he worked as an archaeologist in northern Sudan, where the local architecture inspired his first abstract paintings.

Initially (1950s), Freudenthal's work was figurative, but after meeting his mentor, the Swedish artist Olle Baertling (1911-1981), Freudenthal's work became more abstract and geometric. Although his works are often linked to constructivism, Freudenthal prefers to refer to his work as 'geometric abstraction' and uses many elements of Jewish orgin. Freudenthal converted to Judaism - his grandfather was Grand Rabbi of Nuremberg (1907-1934).

Freudenthal first exhibited in Stockholm in 1966. Other exhibitions include Norrkoping Museum (1974), The Jewish Museum, New York (1978), Aronowitsch Gallery, Stockholm (1979), Convergence Gallery, Paris (1990) Konstakademien (The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts), Stockholm (1998); alongside Einar Höste and Lars Englund, Lunds Konsthall, Lund (2002) and Galerie von Waldenburg, Berlin (2014)

Examples of Peter Freudenthal's works are held in the collections of Moderna Museet and National Museum, Stockholm; The Metropolitan Museum, MoMA and the Jewish Museum, New York; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem and the museums in Norrköping, Kalmar, Gävleborg, Östergötland and Örebro.
